Bohol tourist police to be enhanced; region’s model

Gov. Edgar Chatto will enhance the capability of the Bohol tourist police, a move welcomed by Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Director Laneo Nerez who wants the special force a model in Central Visayas.

The governor committed to sustain his support to the unit which is vital to an intended peacekeeping job in this province envisioned to mature into a truly prime eco-cultural tourism destination in the country.

The police commander in the region said similar special units will be fielded in strategic sites in Cebu, Negros Oriental and Siquijor with the Bohol tourist police system their application blueprint.

Chatto and Nerez spoke in the opening of a basic tourist police course seminar here after the governor added details to the immediate agenda of his provincial administration during his first weekly capitol convocation program as new governor Monday morning.

The highest elected Bohol official and the number one police officer in Region 7 agreed to enhance the capacity of the tourist police, observing that both foreign and domestic tourists keep flowing in.

Tourism industry is described in the National Tourism Act of 2009 as an engine of national economic recovery and growth.

It is a tested generator of jobs and livelihood as it complements with as many other industries, according to Chatto who himself principally authored the above-mentioned milestone legislation in the last Congress.

Tourism is a critical focus of the governor’s baptismal hundred days of provincial administration as gisted in what he coined as HEAT, which first three letters stand for health, education and agriculture. (JONA/EdCom)
